Reducing Animal Testing – Backing Innovation to Protect Animals
Recently in Parliament, my colleague Irene Campbell MP spoke passionately about the need to reduce animal testing in the UK—a goal I wholeheartedly support.
In response, I raised the importance of investing in computer modelling and artificial intelligence as powerful alternatives to traditional testing methods. These technologies offer real promise in helping us move away from outdated and harmful practices, while still ensuring public safety and scientific progress.
But innovation on its own is not enough. If we are serious about phasing out animal testing, then the companies that profit from these industries must step up. That means proper, long-term investment in the research and rollout of ethical alternatives.
As a country that prides itself on high standards of animal welfare, we must match our values with action. I will continue working with colleagues across Parliament to push for policies that protect animals and promote cutting-edge, humane science.
