Save Liskeard Post Office
The Post Office has announced that all directly managed branches will move to a fully franchised model by this autumn, with the aim of creating a more sustainable national network and increasing income for local postmasters.
In Liskeard, I’m pleased that a proposed franchisee has already been identified, someone with generations of experience running post offices that are well-kept, welcoming, and well-stocked.
Importantly, Liskeard Post Office will remain in its current premises, with the same opening hours, services, and products. This provides short-term certainty and stability for our community, which is especially important in rural areas like ours, where reaching the next nearest branch isn’t always easy or even possible.
However, I remain concerned about the long-term future. I know that the Post Office is far more than a place to send parcels. Any permanent solution must reflect local demand, ensure good access for neighbouring communities, and provide quality, secure employment for local people.
That’s why I’m encouraging all South East Cornwall residents to complete my Post Office survey, so you can share your views. When formal consultations begin, I want to make sure your voice is heard. Survey link here https://forms.gle/KBuPdwsFvEdhJzaL7
I’ve also requested a meeting with the Post Office and the proposed new postmaster to represent local concerns and make sure that, from the outset, this transition works for the people of Liskeard and South East Cornwall.
